I haven't gotten a chance to look over one of the vehicles in person yet, but I have done some research online. It seems to me you have a few options; the simplest is to strip the vehicle down to it's frame and recase it with lighter material. While this will increase your milage significantly, it will also negatively effect the vehicle's longevity, especially if you mean to take it into battle.
Another option is to update the engine as much as possible, and then further augment the milage by increasing fuel capacity. Again, however, this potentially increases vulnerability.
The third option is to reconfigure the engine to run on an alternate fuel source. This is possible, but also far more difficult and will take longer to achieve. You have a few more options here, however I'm not positive all of them are possible in this universe. It may take some experimentation to forge a working solution using this method.
I've drawn up some plans for you to look at. If you have any time available, I'd be happy to meet with you, go over them, and discuss a contract for continuing.
