urbandev: (Reeve - y so srs?)

Consciousness returned slowly. Reeve blinked, the light shining through his lashes spikes and stars. Kidnapped, then. Again. At least this time it seemed like they'd spared him the lump on the head.

"Miles?" If he was kidnapped, his hands and ankles strapped to a cool stainless steel table -- just judging by experience -- Miles would be here somewhere. Probably having a moral crisis of some sort.

Reeve made an attempt at pulling himself off the table, but they'd figured out the straps this time, it seemed. He was well and truly pinned, and no tools left within easy reach this time, either.

"We really ought to stop meeting like this."

"That's Doctor Edgeworth to you."

Edgeworth strode into the laboratory, his back straight and his head held high, his labcoat swishing behind him as he waltzes around the table. Reeve was completely right, except for one detail. There was no moral crisis this time. There would be no more doubts. No more games, no more chances for Reeve to talk his way out of trouble.

He smirks down at Reeve and looks him down from head to toe, and satisfied that he's secure, he looms over him and grabs him by the chin.

"And I have to respectfully disagree. After all, I finally have you where I want you."

Edgeworth's face turns as red as his labcoat, and he lets go immediately, twisting himself around and turning his back on Reeve. He's trying to distract him! With his stupid words and his stupid charming smile-

"Moments of weakness," he proclaims, as he strides over to his supercomputer. He hovers over the dials and buttons, and, his voice booming, says, "That's all in the past. This time, you're going to give me everything I want."

You know, like security codes, or secret formulas. That sort of thing. Definitely not any... other thing.

"Hmph! You'd like that, wouldn't you?"

Edgeworth keeps his eyes glued to the various monitors in front of him as he types furiously at the keyboard. Machines hidden in the ceiling above Reeve whir and shift, and there's a monotonous series of clicks as the panels in his lair start to slide and shift away from another.

"You have no idea what I want," he declares, while the ceiling continues to part. "So if you think you can talk your way out of this one, you're sorely mistaken."

And what does he want? Power. Control. The strength needed to bring order to a chaotic, dangerous world. He just needs the will to grab it. Edgeworth takes a deep breath and presses a button, and his latest invention slides out of the ceiling: a laser. A huge, gleaming, deadly laser. Oh, this isn't the first extravagant death machine he's built; it's not even the first time he's pointed it at Reeve. But this time, this time he'll actually use it!

...but only if Reeve doesn't listen to reason first.

"Information," he says coolly, answering automatically. "Don't think that I don't know what you and your colleagues have been working on, Reeve Tuesti."

After all, Edgeworth doesn't have a monopoly on scientific endeavors, and he knows just how ingenious Reeve can be when he puts his mind to it. Soon, soon, his secrets will be his.

Well, his and his mentor's, but that goes without saying.

Edgeworth spins around in his chair, and steeples his fingers together as he crosses one leg over the other.

"We could always do this the easy way."

He suggested talking after letting him go. Please! As if he'd fall for that trick. He respects Reeve's intellect, so the least he can do is return the favor!

"Actually," he says, his voice as calm and cool as always, "This is the part where I press the button."

And before Reeve can protest, the laser shoots down at him, right towards his head and...

And it's quite pleasant, really. It's not burning hot so much as mildly warm, and as it bores into Reeve's head it gives sort of a tingling sensation, like one of those scalp massagers you see on late night infomercials. Edgeworth's face spreads into a sharp, wide smirk, until his computer boops softly at him. The laser stops, leaving Reeve very much alive, and Edgeworth turns away to see the results on his monitor. Finally, he'll see exactly what's on Reeve Tuesti's mind!

...what? Yes, it might be a death laser, but it has other settings, too! Why carry around several large evil inventions when you can have one convenient, multipurpose evil invention? It's just pragmatic.

Blocky pixels fill up his screen and the image slowly sharpens as his program translates the raw date from Reeve's mind into a more visual format. Unfortunately, the mysteries of the mind aren't always as clear cut as Edgeworth would like, and his smirk shifts into a frown when the screen shows him a literal tangled web. He can see a few images connecting to one another, including pictures of himself and his mentor. Hrm. Well, that makes sense. They are, after all, some of Reeve Tuesti's greatest enemies. Edgeworth clicks on the image of his mentor first, just in case Tuesti is planning a scheme or two against them.

And the screen turns red. Bright, throbbing red. He sees no hints of a scheme, no numbers or figures, no flashing images from an imagined plot or a potential weapon. All he sees is evidence of blinding, overwhelming anger. Edgeworth clicks out of it quickly, moving over to the image of himself. And the screen turns... pink? That's odd, but it makes sense, in a way. Surely this represents a more muted frustration. Before he can close out, though, he watches as the image of himself softens. His doppelganger looks away shyly while a light blush crosses his face, and- wait, is the screen shimmering now? Is he-

Okay! Enough of that! Edgeworth nearly bites his tongue off as he closes the window, but there's more thumbnails of himself on the tangled web of Reeve's mind. He clicks on one, and is met of a version of himself huffing and puffing as he turns up his nose and crosses his arms. He clicks another, and watches in horror as a version of himself smirks, showing a row of glistening, movie star quality teeth. He clicks another, and it's just like the first, and...and oh dear lord, that's a heart. That's a tiny heart popping up in the background.

"Close your eyes," he says, his voice too tense to pull off his usual commanding tone. Reeve's question goes ignored, and he closes the window before he slams down on the button. Reeve will get zapped - again - adding whatever's on his mind to his collection of data. There must be a mistake! Reeve Tuesti wouldn't be... he wouldn't... he's not this sentimental! He can't be!
